Five or more nights is the best way to do Broken Bow: you get the park, the lake, the river, and Hochatown's food and wine without rushing any of it, plus a couple of days with nothing planned. This itinerary strings together our individual guides into a week. Treat each day as a menu, not a schedule.
Overview
The shape is simple: arrive and settle in, spend the early days on the big outdoor stops while you have energy, put a flexible day in the middle (useful for weather), and save the slower food, wine, and porch days for the end. Days are written for a Saturday arrival; shift them so your busiest outdoor days land on weekdays, when trails, ramps, and restaurants are quieter.
The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive and settle in
Groceries on the way in, unpack, and a short evening walk. If there’s daylight, drive through Beavers Bend State Park to get your bearings, then an easy dinner on the Hochatown strip.
Day 2: Trails
A morning on the David Boren trail system: Cedar Bluff for something easy, Skyline or Lookout Mountain if you want a real climb. Afternoon at the river by the swinging bridge, and a cabin dinner.
Day 3: The lake
A full day on Broken Bow Lake. Rent a pontoon or boat (rentals guide), swim in a cove, and stay out for sunset.
Day 4: Flexible day
Your weather day. If it’s nice, go kayaking on the Mountain Fork or book a fishing trip. If it isn’t, use the rainy day list: Choctaw Landing, the Forest Heritage Center, and a long lunch.
Day 5: Adventure
Ziplining in the morning, then ATV trails or horseback riding in the afternoon. Celebrate with a flight at a brewery.
Day 6: Wine, food, and a slow afternoon
A late breakfast (our picks), an afternoon at the wineries, and the trip’s dressed-up dinner from the date night list. Add live music if it’s a weekend.
Day 7: Scenic drive and home
Pack up, then take the long way out on one of the scenic drives, stopping at a photo spot or two before the drive home.
Swaps for Families
Swap Day 5’s ATVs for the petting zoo and mini-golf from family activities, and keep the lake day shorter with a long swim break. The family weekend guide has more kid-friendly pacing ideas.
Swaps for Couples
Trade Day 5 for a slow morning, a spa or hot tub afternoon, and the ideas in romantic activities. The couples weekend and honeymoon guide cover the rest.
Local Tips
Check the events calendar for your dates before you lock in the plan; a festival weekend changes how busy everything is. Book anything with limited slots (boats, ziplines, guided trips, weekend dinners) before you arrive, and see getting here and the packing list for the logistics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a week too long in Broken Bow?
Not if you like slow days. A week lets you do the park, the lake, the river, and Hochatown's food and wine without stacking them, and leaves a couple of days to do very little.
What should I book ahead for a week-long trip?
Your cabin first, then anything with limited slots: boat or pontoon rentals, ziplining, guided fishing, horseback rides, a tee time, and dinner reservations for weekend nights.
What if it rains for part of the week?
Build one flexible day into the plan and swap in indoor stops like Choctaw Landing, the Forest Heritage Center, wineries, and breweries. See our rainy day guide.
Where to Stay for a Week
On a longer stay the cabin becomes home base, so a full kitchen, a hot tub, and a porch you'll actually use matter more than being right on the strip.
