Broken Bow is a drive-to destination: there's no commercial airport nearby, and almost everyone arrives by car. The good news is that it's within an easy half day of several big cities. Here's what to expect.
Drive Times
Typical drive times to Hochatown (add about 15 minutes if your cabin is near the town of Broken Bow):
| From | Drive time | Typical route |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas | ~3 to 3.5 hours | Northeast through north Texas into southeast Oklahoma |
| DFW Airport | ~3.5 hours | Same as Dallas, plus time to get out of the airport |
| Shreveport | ~3 hours | North through Texarkana, then US-259 north |
| Tulsa | ~3.5 to 4 hours | South through eastern Oklahoma, then US-259 |
| Little Rock | ~3.5 to 4 hours | I-30 west toward Texarkana, then north |
| Oklahoma City | ~4 to 4.5 hours | Southeast across the state on two-lane highways |
The last stretch on US-259 is two lanes through the hills. Friday evenings in peak season can back up near Hochatown, so arriving before dark is easier, especially if your cabin is down a gravel road.
Flying In
There’s no commercial airport in Broken Bow. The realistic options:
- Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL): the most flights and the best rental car selection, about 3 to 3.5 hours away.
- Shreveport Regional (SHV): about 3 hours away, with fewer routes.
- Texarkana Regional (TXK): the closest commercial airport, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours away, but with very limited service.
- Tulsa (TUL) and Little Rock (LIT): both around 3.5 to 4 hours away.
Whichever you choose, you’ll need a rental car for the trip.
Cell Coverage
Cell service is good along the main highway and in much of Hochatown, but it gets spotty quickly in Beavers Bend State Park, on the lake, and on the back roads where many cabins are. Before you leave home:
- Download offline maps for the area and save your cabin’s directions and door code.
- Screenshot trail maps if you plan to hike. See the hiking guide.
- Check whether your cabin has Wi-Fi if you need to work.
Park Entry & Fees
Beavers Bend State Park doesn’t have a single gated entrance, but Oklahoma State Parks charges a daily parking fee at many parks, including Beavers Bend, payable by app or at kiosks. Rates and rules change, so check the current fee with Oklahoma State Parks before you go. Boat ramps, cabins, golf, and some activities inside the park have their own separate fees. See the Beavers Bend State Park guide for what’s inside.
Before You Go
Pick up groceries before the last stretch if you’ll be cooking at the cabin; stores near Hochatown can be busy on weekends. The packing list covers the rest, and the first-time visitor guide covers how to plan the trip itself.
